At 08:48 AM on the morning of September 11, 2001 (911), in New York City , a vicious terrorist attack devastated the North Tower of the World Trade Center.  Eighteen minutes later, another similar attack ripped through the South Tower .  The Fire Department of New York responded to provide vital assistance.

There are approximately 1,600,000 active professional firefighters in the United States .  There were 344 who never returned from this alarm.
